I've been a fan of Sugoi gear for some time, especially their running tights and swimming jammer shorts. Recently I've gone out and purchased a pair of tri shorts in the preparation for my first triathlon later in the summer. They RS Tri Shorts have proven themselves to be a very valuable piece of training equipment that can do three jobs in one, swim, bike and run.
Here is a look at at how the shorts stack up.
Swimming: A great substitute for a pair of swimming jammer shorts, no noticeable difference in fell or movement during swimming. They dry quickly and keep their form, not riding up or down the leg.
Biking: I was worried in this department as the chamois (the cushion pad on the derriere) is very thin and small compared to my regular cycling shorts. I have yet to ride more then 50km in these shorts but so far they are more comfortable then I initially though they would be. There is however a slight but noticeable difference as there is less chamois to absorb and support certain parts of the male anatomy.
Running: Great pair of running tights, keep their form and do not ride up in motion. The elastic gel on the hems keeps the shorts firmly glued to the legs without pulling at the skin and the chamois is not noticeable at all.
Technical Details:
Chamois - TriLite
Features - Inside key/card pocket at waist, 1 stretch mesh pocket sized for energy pack, Crotch gusset to reduce inseam bulk, 7 1/2 inch inseam, Signature grip leg elastic, Flat drawstring with elastic waist.
Fabric - Ultra Aero
I would rate the shorts very positively with no major detraction encountered to date. The
biggest drawback to them is their price, 85 dollars Canadian before taxes and the possibility of shipping if you go via online shopping. That is a decent price tag in my books but some others might not think so, I do not feel bad paying the price as Sugoi is a Canadian company and the gear is made right here in Canada. Overall a solid piece of gear that is well made to take some serious abuse be it swimming, biking, running or any combination of the three.
